In a recent study in the Spine Journal 2023, researchers found that people who performed moderate to vigorous activity 181 minutes per week or greater significantly reduced the likelihood of experiencing low back pain.

Low back pain is a common condition that affects approximately 40% of the population worldwide. Low back pain often results in physical disability and contributes to the number of years lived with disability more than any other condition.

Researchers found a statistically significant association between moderate to vigorous intensity activity and the probability of a severe trajectory of low back pain over one year.  For every one-minute increase in moderate to vigorous activity per week, there was a 2.8% reduction in the probability of the participant having severe symptoms of low back pain.

The bottom line is the more moderate to vigorous activity you do consistently every week will significantly prevent acute episodes of low back pain in the future.
